More than CZK 683 million in the 2020 capex plan. Water tariff remains below the countrywide average price

Water tariff and sewage charge will grow by 4.91 % next year equalling CZK 89.26

Ostrava, 26 November 2019 – Severomoravské vodovody a kanalizace Ostrava has the highest sustaining and development capex budget in its history for 2020 with another CZK 205 million spent on repair and maintenance projects. The Board of Directors has also approved the new water tariff and sewage charge to apply as of 1 January 2020.

The new price for drinking water (water tariff) for the customers in the districts of Frýdek-Místek, Karviná, Nový Jičín and Opava will amount to CZK 47.27 per cubic meter including VAT of 15 %; the price for waste water discharge and treatment (sewage charge) will be set at CZK 41.99 including VAT. The year-on-year difference represents CZK 2.21 (4.9 %) in water tariff and CZK 1.97 (4.92 %) in sewage charge. Combined, they will grow by CZK 4.18 or 4.91 % including VAT of 15 %.

The new water tariff and sewage charge equal CZK 89.26 in total including VAT of 15 %.
“The calculation of water tariff and sewage charge for next year reflects the development of costs, such as the need to finance the planned sustaining, development and maintenance capex for water infrastructure, HR costs or operational expenses due to the growing price of chemicals and energies. In the long-term, we tend to keep the water tariff and sewage charge a few Czech korunas below the Czech average. It is our goal to keep providing our customers with high-quality services in the required scope for adequate prices,” says Mr. Anatol Pšenička, CEO of SmVaK Ostrava.

The 2020 Capex Plan schedules projects worth almost CZK 280 million in the field of sewage and waste water treatment plan. The sewage outlet liquidation projects in Petřvald and Doubrava will continue; both projects started in 2019 and will cost more than CZK 70 million combined. In 2020, some CZK 41 million will be used on their completion.

A 90-million-worth capex project continues in order to provide a comprehensive sewage system and to build a waste water treatment plant in Dobroslavice above the Hlučín Lake. In 2020, an amount exceeding CZK 27 million will be spent to complete the project.
There will be more significant capex projects concerning water mains in North-Moravian towns and communities worth more than CZK 258 million.

Almost CZK 130 million will be invested in the framework drinking water supply system – the Ostrava Regional Water Network. The equipment refurbishment project at the Nová Ves Water Treatment Plant or the refurbishment of the major Chlebovice – Staříč – Bělá supply line will continue. The water treatment plant refurbishment will cost CZK 125 million in total, of which more than 35 million will be spent in 2020 on final adjustments. As concerns the supply line, the total costs equal 145 million, of which 39 million will be spent in 2020.
