CZK 8 million trenchless replacement of 5 km of water supplies in the Budišov area

As SmVaK Ostrava does not supply drinking water to the military zone in Libavá and to Město Libavá anymore, it was necessary to make investments in order to improve supplies of water into Budišov nad Budišovkou - Podlesí.

Ostrava, 15 September 2017 – As the drinking water to the military zone in Libavá and to Město Libavá is not supplied by SmVaK Ostrava, but by Armádní servisní, it is necessary now to optimise the supplies for Budišov nad Budišovkou – Podlesí. A trenchless technology is used for replacement of 4,766 m water supply. This method is faster, cheaper, more efficient and more environment friendly than traditional excavation. The replacement should by completed by the end of autumn.

“The water pipelines were sized for considerably higher consumption. And such pipelines are not necessary now when we do not supply the water into the Libavá region. If the existing pipelines were not modified and if the boosting station were not re-equipped, water would be kept in the pipeline too much. This would deteriorate quality of water for final customers in Podlesí. And the pressure in the network was too low”, says Milan Koníř, Director of Water Networks in SmVaK Ostrava.

Trenchless replacement will be used along the pipeline length. If compared with excavation, the trenchless replacement is cheaper and is completed earlier.

In this case, it is the starting point and ending point only where the surface is damaged - in those places, drilling equipment is used.
In case of Budišov, most of the route is located in woods and fields out of the community.

Six service pipes need to be reconnected, a new pipeline will be connected to the boosting station in Podlesí and  new equipment will be installed in the boosting  station and 50 m3 reservoir in Podlesí.
